Starting 11

Name a real match line-up.

Starting 11 hides a real team sheet from a real match — a final, a famous night, a league decider — and asks you to name the eleven who actually started. Not the squad, not the club legends: the specific eleven from that specific day, each one dropping into position as you get them.

It's a memory game about how football is really remembered. You'll have the scorer and the keeper instantly, then discover you have absolutely no idea who played right-back in a match you watched live. Wrong guesses are free — this game is *made* of near-misses — and clues are there for the slot that haunts you.

Pick matches you were alive for and it's nostalgia; pick ones you weren't and it's an education. Either way, the final unfilled slot is always, somehow, a centre-back.

How to play

  1. A real match line-up is hidden — name all eleven starters.
  2. Wrong guesses are free; each correct name drops into its position.
  3. Fill the XI to finish. Fewer guesses and hints score higher.
From the coach

It's a real team sheet, so a wrong name costs nowt — reel off the XI and watch them slot in.

Good to know

It’s you if you can picture the celebration but not the unmarked man who started it.
